Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need chlorination for new pipework?
Yes — in most cases, new pipework must be disinfected before it can be put into use or connected to the mains.
This is typically required by water authorities and should be carried out in line with BS 8558 to ensure the system is safe and compliant.
What standard is pipework chlorination carried out to?
Chlorination is usually carried out in accordance with BS 8558, along with guidance from HSG274 and ACoP L8 where applicable.
We follow these standards to ensure systems are properly disinfected and certification is accepted.
What ppm is used for chlorination?
For most new installations, chlorination is carried out at 50 ppm chlorine concentration.
In some cases, alternative methods (such as lower ppm with longer contact times) may be used depending on the system and requirements.
How long does chlorination take?
Most chlorination jobs can be completed within a few hours.
This includes flushing, dosing, contact time, and neutralisation. Larger systems or sites may take longer depending on size and complexity.
Do I need a chlorination certificate?
Yes — most water authorities and clients require a chlorination certificate before a system can be signed off or connected.
We provide certification on completion of all works.
What happens if a water sample fails?
If microbiological results fail after chlorination, the system may need to be re-flushed and disinfected again.
We can advise on the cause (e.g. stagnation, poor flushing, dead legs) and carry out remedial works if required.
Can you carry out chlorination at short notice?
Yes — we understand many projects are time-sensitive.
We offer a fast turnaround and can often attend at short notice depending on availability.
Do you carry out mains water chlorination?
Yes — we carry out chlorination of new mains pipework for developers and groundworkers prior to connection.
All work is completed to the required standards with certification provided.
Do you offer water sampling and testing?
Yes — we can carry out microbiological water sampling, including Legionella testing where required, to confirm systems are safe after disinfection.
What areas do you cover?
We are based in Staffordshire and cover the West Midlands, including Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Walsall and surrounding areas.
We also travel UK-wide for larger projects.
